Next, gather all the information needed to write the SOP. Talk to the people who perform the task daily — they know the details best. Observe the process, take notes, and ask questions. For instance, if you’re documenting the customer service process, shadow your top-performing reps, record their workflows, and note any tools or software they use. This firsthand information will be the backbone of your SOP.
